Synopsis Continuing from last issue (The Brave and the Bold #5)... In 3007, the Luck Lords hold The Book of Destiny. They gloat. They grabbed The Book in 2007. It shows everything that ever happened in the past, present, and future. They've eliminated luck and chance, and dominated the last thousand years. They show their captives, Batman and the Legion of Super-Heroes, that Supergirl, Adam Strange, and Green Lantern all died in 2007. One glitch. The Lords fear Batman's secret knowledge of - something. Meanwhile, in 2007, on Rann, Adam Strange, Green Lantern, and Supergirl battle while the Luck Lords look on. The enemy is General Mondath and his Rannian forces, who fight Thangarian Hawkmen. General Mondath refers to The Book to direct the battle, since everything is already written in "history". Supergirl, Green Lantern, and Adam Strange need Batman to identify "The Men Who Were Not There." Adam Strange gets Supergirl, who has triple-powers under Rann's triple suns, to read The Book at a distance. It's terrifying, especially when she sees her and others' deaths. But she sees Batman stuck in the year 3007. Adam Strange and GL combine a zeta-beam and power-ring beam and yank Batman back through time, where he passes visions of DC's Future Heroes. Supergirl and Green Lantern battle bipods and other nefarious Rannian weapons (seen in Mystery in Space). Batman explains to Adam Strange that four men survived a miraculous plane crash, and should have died. Instead they survived, and stepped out of Destiny's Book. They're an unknown quantity that might scotch the Luck Lords. A zeta-beam fetches from Earth "men unafraid of anything" - The Challengers of the Unknown. "No time for explanations. I need you four hell-bent on grabbing the General's guidebook!" Ace, Rocky, Red, and Prof grab weapons and trash soldiers and bipods. Supergirl is thrilled. "None of this was in The Book! We did it! We changed destiny!" Except Supergirl is lanced by a giant kryptonite talon. GL whisks her into space to heal under three suns. The Challengers wreak havoc. General Mondath panics, flipping pages. "Nothing matches The Book!" He runs smack into the Challs, who grab The Book. The Luck Lords beam in to snatch it, but get zeta-beamed to the center universe by Adam Strange. Batman checks the book. All is well. The thousand-year war never happened. The Challengers are given The Book of Destiny to guard. Adam Strange thanks everyone. He'll call if the war gets too bad. And Earth's heroes hop a zeta-beam back home. THE END (of a six-book story arc)
