Deathlok -a death cyborg from the future- has it's dead, human brain removed at Cybertek Systems, a subsidiary of Roxxon. Harlan Ryker, the project manager, then begins a search for a living brain to run the cyborg. Michael Collins, a pacifist at heart, has always believed in doing the right thing, even if it wasn't always the easiest. Michael has a lovely wife, a young son, a great career, and a good life. His latest project at Cybertek-- writing software programs for high-tech artifical limbs-- while lofty with ambition, is a lie. He is unwittingly working on the Deathlok cyborg project. He takes his complaints to Ryker and threatens to go to the papers. Not wanting the publicity, Harlan shoots him. Michael then wakes up as Deathlok, his brain transplanted into the cybernetic warrior. He is in a South American country, fighting rebels who are fighting a corrupt government. Using his skills as a programmer, he begins re-writing the code to control the cyborg, instead of its outside remote controls. Michael also installs a no-killing parameter in the cyborg's computer, enraging Harlan further. An attempt to go home ends badly for him, but he drops enough clues to Tracy and Nick to let them know he is still alive. He contemplates suicide, then changes his mind. |
