Synopsis |
The Challengers land on the Pacific’s Vaniki Island because its king has been out of touch. (They also miss Red Ryan, killed in COTU 55.) Islanders in war canoes “greet” them with machine guns and knockout-gas leis. The king opposed Seekeenakee, “Stone God That Walk Like a Man”, so was overthrown. The Challs are dumped down a sacrificial well. Prof blocks the exit with rocks and they float free. Searching, cracking jokes, they bump into the “legendary” Seekeenakee, a walking tiki god! They belt the huge god with a tree trunk, he snatches it away – and the Challs run for their lives. Later they disguise as locals to watch a cult ceremony. Devotees include a famous scientist, actress, banker, and hit man. The Challs are spooked by – Tino Mannaray, who followed them! Seekeenakee plans to invade local islands and conquer the Pacific! The Challs’ ship is shot up and they’re grounded. Seekeenakee’s agents undermine the next island, seducing the president, enflaming the locals, assassinating a general. A sky-fire weapon and Seekeenakee’s army seize the island. The Challs land and are trapped. Seekeenakee demands allegiance. Ace offers a poison pen, but the god knocks it away, then Prof’s minilab of explosives. How does Seekeenakee know their secrets? Prof holds up a mini-TV that shows Vaniki Island will be atom-bombed. Seekeenakee dashes home to protect his base. The Challs battle guards, saddle up, and air-drop a huge bomb down the stone god’s throat! It’s over. But the natives report that, digging up rubble, Seekeenakee is gone! Was he really immortal? Stay tuned... |
