Synopsis | The Colossus of Rhodes-- Chares of Lindus built this colossal statue between 292 and 280 BC to commemorate the victory of Rhodes over the besieging Macedonians. One of the 7 Wonders of the World, it was destroyed by Earthquake in 224 BC, but it was never able to be reconstructed without Chares' architectural brilliance. |
