12 page Human Torch story "Escape From Doom"

Characters V: Crusher (I), Steely (I) and their gang (I)
Synopsis A convict named Crusher is scheduled to die in the electric chair at midnight, but he has a plan to escape using the Torch's help. He knows Torch wants info on his partner Steely, so he has the warden call the Torch and tell him he's willing to talk. Torch and Toro arrive at the prison and the warden's little girl is smitten with Toro. Torch finds this amusing and so convinces the warden to allow the girl to accompany Toro and himself to Crusher's cell. Crusher's plan is to take the kids hostage and force the Torch to burn an underground escape tunnel out to where Steely is waiting for them. Crusher has a concealed knife and blackjack, so Torch realizes he dare not put the children's lives at risk. In the getaway vehicle, Toro gets the girl's hair ribbon and writes a message for Torch, discarding it out the window. It's found and the message is relayed to Torch at the warden's office. Torch rescues the kids and they apprehend the felons.
