Characters | Challengers of the Unknown [Ace Morgan; Red Ryan; Rocky Davis; Prof Haley; June Robbins]; F. Gaylord Clayburn III; Multi-Man; Kra (Cameo); Volcano Man (Cameo) |
Synopsis | When the US Navy tests an atom bomb on a Pacific Island, a gigantic Multi-Man rises laughing. He’s invulnerable! And he can remotely detonate any nuclear power plant in the world. Unless he’s appointed Supreme Dictator of Earth, he’ll destroy US cities one by one. The Challengers check their island prison: sure enough, a Multi-Man doll sits before the monitor! Rocky and Red check the atom-bomb island and find no clues: not even footprints. Meanwhile, emotions run high. Prof has a secret: he’s dying of an incurable disease! And June Robbins is keeping company with F. Gaylord Clayburn III, a one-shot Challenger (COTU 30) playboy. Ace tells him to get lost, and Clayburn vows to find MM first. Prof has some clues to the remote nuclear detonator, and knows where to get parts. Jetting to the plant, the Challengers wallop Multi-Man’s thugs, but can’t lay a hand on Big Dome. He can turn immaterial at will, which is how he survived the atom-bomb blast! June and Clayburn dive into the fight, but can’t spray Multi-Man with antidote because he’s ghost-like. In the brawl, June gets grabbed - as Multi-Man’s hostage!.. To be continued in their revived magazine, Challengers of the Unknown 81. |
