Characters | Kay; Lucy; Stan Dryden |
Synopsis | In the locker room, before basketball practice, Kay can't keep her excitement about her date to herself and tells Lucy about Stan Dryden. But Lucy is skeptical, and reminds Kay that Stan is much older and isn't "the marrying kind". Against her parents wishes, Kay and Stan go to the Dew Drop Inn, a notorious gambling place where they eat, dance and kiss, only to face the wrath of her father when they arrive home. But Stan convinces Kay's father that he is a man he can trust and over the next few dates makes sure that Kay is home on time. He is trustworthy until they go on a romantic cruise. Caught up in the romantic evening, they kiss passionately. This time, when they arrive late, Kay's father throws Stan out and forbids her from seeing him again, even as she begs Stan to take her with him. Later that night, Stan returns and Kay sneaks out of the house. They race across the state line where Kay thinks they are going to be married, but when Stan tells her he had no intention of that. Her screams of shock draw the attention of a passing state trooper and Kay has to lie to avoid having Stan arrested. Almost in gratitude, Stan then proposes, but Kay has had enough and insists he take her to a bus station for the quickest ride back home. Back at Warren High, Kay is lonely since her friends were too busy with their steadies to spend time with her. Even Lucy reminds Kay that she told her Stan would never propose... and even though he did all Kay had were memories to prove it. |
