Direct Edition. "But the Cat Came Back" Part 1 of 2. Script by Roger Stern. Art by John Romita Jr. (breakdowns) and Jim Mooney (finishes). Cover by John Romita Jr. and Al Milgrom. Because the fans demanded her, the Black Cat is back! And flirting and fighting with the web-slinger all over again! "Double-Cross!" Plot by Jim Shooter. Script by Jim Shooter and Bob Hall. Pencils by Bob Hall. Inks by Dan Green. Cover by Bob Hall and Dan Green. Henry Pym is down in the dumps after his foolish actions several issues ago. He's lost his teammates, his wife, and his reputation. The impoverished avenger is trying to rebuild his life, when he has a chance encounter with a long-time foe...Egghead! Apparently Egghead (last seen in Defenders 43) needs Dr. Pym's help in providing a new prosthetic device to his niece, Trish Starr. Can the devious super-villain be trusted? Unfortunately, the answer is no as Hank Pym's mission of mercy turns into a blackmail operation! Egghead will kill Trish, if Yellowjacket doesn't steal tanks of adamantium resin from the Strategic Air Command in Nebraska! Without any other options, the former avenger steals the tanks. However during the escape, four super-heroes arrive on the scene to confront him! It's four heroes Hank Pym knows very well: Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, and the Wasp! And as depicted on the terrific cover, Yellowjacket fights the Avengers to the finish...a heartbreaking finish. Cameo and first appearance by Fabian Stankowicz. (Note: Hank Pym, Trish Starr, and Egghead formerly crossed paths in Marvel Feature (1st series) 5 and Giant-Size Defenders 4.) Cover price $0.60.

Red panel variant. While most copies of this issue have a blank panel on the bottom left of page 10, about 1600 copies (of 80000 issues printed) show a red ink drawing of Dante in that panel. In the "Bullpen Bulletins" page in Marvel Comics cover-dated June 1982, Editor-in-Chief Jim Shooter humorously explains this with "The First Annual Shooter Awards". Shooter wrote "The Award for Worst Engraver's Error goes to Chemical Color for Ka-Zar #12 "Belasco...!" in which an entire panel, a color-hold, was dropped out!" Cover price $0.75.

While Dr. Donald Blake is performing a life-saving procedure at Mount Sinai Hospital, a bizarre creature called Meru the Mind-Bender busts into the operating room! Fortunately though, the Daily Bugle sent a reporter and photographer (Peter Parker) to cover this critical operation! However, Meru makes short work of the web-slinger and seems poised to kill Dr. Blake's patient until...the thunder god strikes! Thor fights off the Mind-Bender for the moment, but the dramatic second showdown with Meru takes place on top of the World Trade Center! How will the Son of Odin and Spidey fare in round two? And what is the true identity of Dr. Blake's seemingly destitute patient? (Note: The back cover features a full-page ad for Dungeons and Dragons with art by Bill Willingham.) 32 pages. Cover price $0.60.
