The adventure behind-the-scenes of Disney's Atlantis: The Lost Empire, was almost as great as the one that will wind up on movie screens this summer. Seeking to break away from old formulas, directors Gary Trousdale and Kirk Wise spun a tale that harkens back to the company's classic 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and brought in Hellboy creator Mike Mignola to add his own, unique stamp to the film's visuals. Now, Cinefantastique will take you inside the production of this animated epic, showing how Mignola's celebrated style has been brought to life by the Disney artists. Also included will be exclusive interviews with many of the main participants, as well as features which highlight the story with art that will trace the genesis of the project from Mignola's pen to the finished film: the first 70mm, animated epic Disney has offered in over 15 years! Plus: more-in-depth coverage of all the summer blockbusters, including Jurassic Park III, Planet of the Apes, and Rollerball! Cover price $5.95.

    Published Aug 2001 by Marvel.

"From a Whisper to a Scream" Script by Fabian Nicieza. Pencils by Michael Ryan. Inks by Sean Parsons. Cover by Michael Ryan and Sean Parsons. On Tasman Island, Australia, Baron von Strucker is on the brink of world domination! The Supreme Hydra is poised to launch nanoprobes from satellites orbiting the Earth, and then use a sonic cannon to broadcast the Voice Modulation Program (VMP) to control the entire planet's population! However the V-Battalion has a two-pronged approach to foil the baron. Goldfire, Iron Cross, Nuklo, and Topspin will attempt to destroy the satellites. While Citizen V endeavors to knock out the sonic cannon. But if both should fail, Roger Aubrey has a backup plan: reprogram the VMP with his voice pattern instead of von Strucker's! Hold on, doesn't that mean the V-Battalion would rule the world? What an ethical dilemma! However Roger doesn't know that Citizen V is secretly planning to override the VMP with his own voice pattern. Now why would Citizen V do that? Only the baron's daughter, Andrea, knows the truth! An excellent limited series! Final appearance of Iron Cross. Appearances by Elisabeth Barstow, Fred Davis, Jim Hammond, Andrea Sterman, and Andreas von Strucker. Direct Edition. (Notes: Citizen V appears next in Thunderbolts #54. The V-Battalion returns in the Citizen V and the V-Battalion The Everlasting (2002) limited series. The Citizen V (2001) limited series was reprinted in 2022 in the hardcover: Thunderbolts Omnibus #2.) 32 pages. Cover price $2.99.
