First appearance of Nightshade in "Queen of the Werewolves" Plot by Steve Englehart and Alan Weiss. Script by Steve Englehart. Art by Alan Weiss (with touch-ups by John Romita Sr.). Cover by John Romita Sr. On their way back to New York, the Sentinel of Liberty and the Falcon stop at Grimrock Prison in Maryland to check on Sam Wilson's friend who is serving time there. And unfortunately, the duo is completely unaware of the horror that awaits them inside. Cap enters the facility from the rear and is immediately attacked by werewolves! The star-spangled avenger ferociously fends off the wolf pack and then meets their master: Nightshade! She initially seems harmless -- almost childlike -- but Nightshade enjoys turning people into werewolves...including Sam Wilson! Oh no, will Captain America have to fight the new Falcon-Wolf? Yes, he will. Just like Nightshade planned! Cameo appearances by Nick Fury and the Yellow Claw. (Notes: This is the first appearance of Yellow Claw since the early silver age Yellow Claw (1956) series. A robot version of the character appeared in Strange Tales (1st series) 161-167. Nightshade returns in Captain America 189. Years later she will turn Cap into a werewolf in Captain America 405. Romita's touch-ups to Weiss' pencils create quite a contrast in styles.) 32 pages. Cover price $0.20.

With strength and skill, Cap and the Falcon escape from Yellow Claw's deadly trap at the Museum of Natural History! But the claw and Suwan have disappeared, and no one knows where they will strike next. In the meantime at the hospital, Nick Fury wakes up and tells the Contessa that Yellow Claw is planning to hijack the SHIELD Helicarrier! Oh goodness, that would be a disaster for America! First appearance of Helmut Zemo in "And a Phoenix Shall Arise!" Script by Roy Thomas and Tony Isabella. Pencils by Sal Buscema. Inks by John Tartaglione and George Roussos. Cover by Sal Buscema and John Verpoorten. On a rooftop in Manhattan, a mysterious assailant ambushes the star-spangled avenger! Cap doesn't know who the surprise attacker is, but he calls himself the Phoenix. And he really seems to hate Captain America! And as shown on the cover, the Living Legend soon finds himself dangling over a vat of Adhesive X. Hold on, Adhesive X was the calling card of the late Baron Heinrich Zemo. Is the past coming back to haunt the Sentinel of Liberty? Thankfully, the Falcon and Redwing make sure it's not today. But one of Cap's greatest foes -- and also one of the Avengers' -- is born! Flashback cameos by Baron Heinrich Zemo and the Red Skull. (Note: Helmut Zemo returns several years later in Captain America 275 and officially adopts the name and uniform of his father.) 32 pages. "One Day in Newfoundland" Guest-starring Iron Man. Script by Don Glut. Art by Sal Buscema (breakdowns), Mike Esposito (finishes), and John Tartaglione (finishes). Cover by Sal Buscema and Joe Sinnott. After meeting the mysterious Veda on the street outside his apartment, Captain America takes her to Avengers Mansion to talk. However while at the mansion, Cap and Shell-Head strike up a conversation about the Avengers' submarine -- that pulled the Living Legend from the icy waters of the North Sea (in the classic Avengers #4). And after listening to the sub's old audio tapes, Cap discovers an inconsistency in his origin! Why did he mention striking the water off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada, when he actually fell into the English Channel? To answer that question, the star-spangled avenger returns to Newfoundland...where the mystery only deepens! First (cameo) appearances of Lyle Dekker and the Ameridroid. Cameo appearances by the Falcon, Sharon Carter, Nick Fury, Jarvis, Marvel Man (aka Wendell Vaughn), Blue Streak, Texas Twister, and the Vamp. 32 pages. Cover price $0.35.
