New York World's Fair Superman Day Print by Liam 'Lou' Zimmerman

Return to Comic Art Main Page

Price: $250.00

1995

From the attached information sticker on the back of the piece: "Created by Liam 'Lou' Zimmerman to promote 'Superman Day' at the New York World's Fair on July 3, 1940, the rejected original art was given to the artist's young neighbor, Elliot Faber, for his 10th birthday. On the originals' reverse, a stamp indicates: "Project assigned 6/11/40; completed 6/19/40; rejected 6/24/40". Penciled notes explain the planned poster was cancelled by H. Donenfeld for "lack (of) cooperation between Macy's, World's Fair, and Superman, Inc." An error- 'Macy's Toyland' not 'Macy's and Toyland' is also cited. 'Found' April 1995 as his childhood Flushing, New York home was prepared for sale, 15 copies were reproduced for its rarity as vintage Superman ephemeral. Signed by Faber and numbered 9/15. Print measures 11" x 15 1/2". Print can be inserted into affixed pockets to remain in place in the matting behind a transparent overlay. Full matted piece measures 15 1/2" x 19 1/4".
