SOLD for $3,150.00from Dominique Laveau Voodoo Child (2012 DC Vertigo) 3
2012 DC
A fantastic full issue featuring everything great about this moody, action-packed horror series that sees a young woman learn that she's the descendant of of the storied voodoo practitioner Marie Laveau- and that that comes with responsibilities. The series' third issue features some fantastic pages, most notably the spread on pages 14-15- a montage of a supernatural civil war raging in the shadows of America's own.
This group is also an interesting look at the process of creating comics. The first 10 pages are Cowan's raw pencils with the back half of the issue being Floyd's inks over printed versions of Cowan's pencils. Cowan's raw art is loose and full of energy and expression and it's fascinating to be able to see where Floyd (a regular inking partner of Cowan's) chose to focus Cowan's dizzying linework while still maintaining all of the energy. The reason for the split in medium in this group is likely that the two artists each kept half of the pages they personally worked on and sent the rest to the other artist.
Pages 1-10 are pencil on DC Comics art board. Pages 11-20 are ink over printed pencils on comic art board with portions of the inks, mainly solid black areas, also printed in addition to the pencils. Additionally there is a partial page featuring a redraw of a figure from page 19 which was likely done at editorial's request and digitally placed into the full page for publication. All full pages measure 11" x 17", redraw measures 11" x 4 1/2".
