Original Art for the Johnny Reb Comic Strip (8/25/1957) Pencils by Jack Kirby, Inks by Frank Giacoia

Return to Comic Art Main Page

In auction ending July 15

1957

A beautiful, oversized Sunday entry of the Civil War strip that finds Johnny back from leave and put immediately back to work trying to get a single mule out of a corral. Great work from the two comics legends here, especially in the design and expressions of the gruff "Half Hour" Harrison. Pencil and ink on art board. 28 1/2" x 18 1/4". Also included is a full color printout of the published strip on 8 1/2" x 11" paper. NOTE: Caption box stat from the fifth panel ("While I was ducking I ran into the only mule that seemed to have a gentle expression") is missing).
