Slab Condition
CGC, CBCS, and PSA cases are made from brittle plastic. As a result, cases may accumulate minor scratches, scuffs, and cracks in the course of routine handling and shipment through the mail.
None of the slabbing companies guarantee that even brand new cases will arrive in perfect condition completely free of minor production flaws, including but not limited to: scuffs to the outer case or inner well, minor scratches, newton rings, and other minor flaws.
How we handle slabs with cosmetic flaws or minor damage
We will not accept returns or provide refunds due to concerns about cosmetic flaws or minor case issues in which the strutural integrity of the case is unimpaired.
We do not sell slabbed comics if we believe the case has been damaged enough that it no longer protects the comic or fails to provide confidence that the comic is secure and has not been tampered with. However, there are a variety of minor cracks, scratches, breaks, and other minor case issues that do not rise to that level, including the following:
- scuffing or scratches on the slab or inner well
- minor cracks not large enough to compromise structural integrity
- Newton rings, a rainbow pattern that is sometimes visible at the flat contact surface between two pieces of plastic
- minor debris in the case including bits of plastic or paper, as long as it's not indicative of a damaged comic
- minor gapping around one or more edges of the case that does not compromise the integrity of the case
- an inner well that is not fully sealed all the way around as long as there is no indication of potential damage to the comic. The inner well is an additional protective sleeve inside the outer case that helps hold the comic securely and prevent it from shifting around. An inner well that is not fully sealed is sometimes found with thicker comics like Golden Age books.
- typos or other errors in the information printed on the slab's label. If the error is a large one like misidentifying the title, issue number, or variant on the main front-facing label, we will send the slab in to be corrected (for higher value items) or in some cases allow it to be sold as-is but will record the comic using our correct information rather than the incorrect information from the slab's label (for lower value items).
- a top edge label that is peeling or detached; this is the thin strip visible when looking down on the slab from the top (case designs vary)
We, like other major retailers and auction houses, do not consider these flaws outside the realm of acceptability. In some cases, some of these flaws may even be present in a brand new slab received directly from grading by CGC.
We understand that some customers may prefer to purchase only slabs that are essentially flawless. There's nothing wrong with that preference, but if that is your requirement, we at MyComicShop are unable to accommodate you, and the same is true of virtually all other major comic sellers. If you require a case free of cosmetic defects and minor damage, we recommend focusing on in-person purchases where you can inspect the case as closely as you wish.
