Wanted Comics (1947 Orbit / Toytown) 29

  • Issue #29
    Wanted Comics (1947 Orbit / Toytown) 29
    • 2" Spine split from bottom. Water damage.

Stories and art by Mort Leav, Bill Woolfolk, Syd Shores and Mort Lawrence. Bloody pre-Code crime comics, in imitation of Crime Does Not Pay - including a top-hatted, otherworldly narrator. The twist is that the publisher offers wanted posters (and rewards) for real-life criminals. This issue was cited in the text (page 32) of the famous anti-comics classic, Seduction of the Innocent. The "Three Musketeers" of crime swear to each other that they will go down together, a promise they keep. A true tale of a man who lost his identity. A man is suspected of murder, and his only alibi is a ventriloquist's dummy. Crime's Three Musketeers; Wanted: James Stewart; Hangman's Holiday; Hot-Car Driver; Johnny on the Spot; Wanted: Howard F. Bent Jr.; He Was Born to Hang. 48 pages, Full Color. Cover price $0.10.
