Written by Mac Raboy and Don Moore. Art by Mac Raboy.

Dark Horse is proud to present this collection of Mac Raboy's run on Flash Gordon. Continuing Dark Horse Comics' tradition of fine reprint books, this tome is the first ever collection of Flash Gordon work by Raboy. Beginning his comics career in 1940, after taking government-funded drawing classes, Emanuel `Mac' Raboy drew comics for the Harry "A" Chesler Studio and for Fawcett Publications. He's perhaps best known for his work on Captain Marvel, Jr. and the Green Lama in the 1940s. In the Spring of 1948 he signed on with King Features to illustrate the 'Flash Gordon' Sunday page, following in the footsteps of his idol, Alex Raymond, and drawing the strip until his death in December of 1967.

    Softcover (Horizontal Format), 12-in. x 9-in., 256 pages, B&W. Cover price $19.95.

    Volume 2 - 1st printing.

Written by Mac Raboy and Don Moore. Art by Mac Raboy.

Continuing Dark Horse Comics' tradition of finer reprint books, this is the second volume in our archival collection of Mac Raboy's lengthy Flash Gordon run. This series marks the first time that Raboy's Flash Gordon strips have ever been collected. Beginning his comics career in 1940, Emanuel "Mac" Raboy is perhaps best known for his work on Captain Marvel, Jr. and the Green Lama in the 1940s. He graduated from a government-funded art class, was heavily influenced by Alex Raymond's style, and, in the Spring of 1948, he signed on with King Features to illustrate the "Flash Gordon" Sunday page. Following in the footsteps of his idol, Mac Raboy's run on this serial was actually longer than Raymond's. Raboy drew the strip until his death in December of 1967, and several of his early wood engravings (from his fine art days) remain in the permanent collection of New York's Metropolitan Museum.

    Softcover (Horizontal Format), 12-in. x 9-in., 256 pages, B&W. Cover price $19.95.

    1st printing.

Story and art by Stephan Pastis.

At its heart, Pearls Before Swine is the comic strip tale of two friends: an arrogant Rat who thinks he knows it all and a slow-witted Pig who doesn't know any better. Together, this pair offers caustic commentary on humanity's quest for the unattainable. Dilbert cartoonist Scott Adams says that Pearls is "one of the few comics that make me laugh out loud."

    Volume 4 - 1st printing. "1990-1993!"

Story and art by Lynn Johnston.

This volume includes the story that earned Lynn Johnston a Pulitzer Prize nomination. The '90s start with a bang for the Pattersons when Elly finds out she is pregnant! Follow April Patterson as she grows from a toddler to a three-year-old, all in this single volume-but that isn't all the excitement in the house, especially when there is a teenager around. Michael gets his first summer job, a steady girlfriend, and a driver's license-if he passes the test. Adolescence is just as challenging for Elizabeth, who navigates middle school, learns to cope with the stigma of wearing glasses, and is peer-pressured into smoking a cigarette! Meanwhile, John succumbs to his (first) mid-life crisis when he buys his first model train.

The highlight of this collection, however, is Lawrence's coming out story, a tender and compassionate tale of gender identity and acceptance for which Lynn was deservedly nominated for the newspaper industry's top honor. Includes every comic strip from December 10, 1989 to April 24, 1993.

    Hardcover, 11-in. x 9-in., 544 pages, PC/PB&W.

    Cover price $49.99.

Forty Year with Mister Oswald HC (1968) Hardware 1968
    • Water damage.

Forty Years With Mr. Oswald, published in 1968, and written and illustrated by Russell "Russ" Johnson, chronicles wonderfully via a comic strip format one man's lifetime in the hardware business. Russ Johnson started drawing strips about daily life and trials of a hardware store owner around 1927 when he went to work in his fathers hardware store. Soon, the Hardware Retailer, a magazine geared towards hardware store owners and suppliers, found out about these strips and asked Johnson to begin submitting strips for each months issue. Johnson continued drawing Mister Oswald for the next 65 years. Johnson adds a nice anecdotal summary before each chapter. The attention to detail is impressive given how busy Johnson was as he was almost always working. The first few pages of the book look almost nothing like the rest because Johnsons style and sophistication as a comic artist and story teller grew at a very rapid rate. Johnsons characters are filled with life through masterful story telling, realistic settings, brilliant situations, and hilarious dialog. The writer who contributed to this review concludes, "Each page has me wishing I worked with these people and I cant stop wondering what it might have been like to know and work with the real Mr. Oswald." Black and white art, 286 pages, hardback.
