It is a Thursday morning at a quarter to nine, on the Powell Street Hill, in San Francisco. 59 strangers are riding a cable car on their way to work when a bolt of mysterious energy surrounds the car and irrevocably changes each one of the passengers, giving each one ultrahuman abilities. Some die instantly, their bodies unable to handle the strain. Others feel completely unaffected, the changes too small to feel. Some will become heroes, some villains. Confronted by a mysterious sorceress from the clouds who holds the key to unlocking this jumpstart event, six strangers join together to solve the secret of their origin...even if it means a fight to the death!
