See for yourself; volume 2 serves up even more offerings from the likes of Tony Mortellaro, Ed Robbins, Jon Smalle, Basil Wolverton, John Bulthuis, Ed Smalle, Frank Frollo, Hy Fleishman, Werner Roth, Charles Stern, Eugene E. Volume 1 - 1st printing. "May 1953 to January 1954!" Collects Mysteries (1953-1955) #1-5.
This one's a wacky entry and no denying, with Canadian publisher Superior Comics coming into the four-color horror ring all gloved up and swinging fit to punch the lights out of anybody who stands in their way. They kicked off with Journey Into Fear, Strange Mysteries (as opposed to pretty straightforward and perhaps even slightly boring mysteries), and the one-word extravaganza that was Mysteries, the latter calling itself variously Mysteries (its legal title) and, on the cover, Mysteries Weird and Strange.
The earlier tales were bizarre and quirky and it's pretty clear that inspiration was in short supply that day. Good stuff though, Clancy, with pens, pencils and plots coming from, among others, Jay Disbrow and the Igor Shop: clear a space on the shelf pronto.
Hardcover, 184 pages, full color.

St. John's criminally overlooked Weird Horrors title from the early 1950's-with a cover style that's a riff on Marvel's later and much-loved Amazing Adult Fantasy-is this month's bona fide excitement, and believe me, you'll have to go a long way to match this first volume, with work from Bob Forgione, Albert Tyler, Rafael Astarita, George Tuska, Paul Gattuso, Enrico Bagnoli, Don Perlin, Gus Ricca, Abe Simon, Charles Sultan, and André LeBlanc. many of whom are not household names though their styles deserve for them to be right up their with the very best. The real-life crimes and capture of the Red Keenan Gang are revealed in an early story by Plastic Man creator Jack Cole. Aviator hero Sky Chief tracks saboteurs to stop the destruction of American small planes. Rocketman investigates after an atomic scientist is murdered and his daughter is kidnapped. Cover by Paul Gattuso. Stories and art by Ralph Mayo, Paul Gattuso, Joe Beck, Otto Eppers, Gus Schrotter, Joey Cavallo, Anthony Cataldo and George Tuska. Superior takes over publishing of the humor and adventure anthology from Chesler / Dynamic. This issue features unpublished stories left over from the Chesler era. Diminutive, Shadow-like superhero Black Dwarf investigates after two of his agents find a shooting victim on the street. This story features the slang wordplay the strip was noted for, with lines like "He's cold cuts already, and his leather is empty!" The Gay Desperado follows stories of the "flaming hoss" and finds sinister doings afoot. Lady Satan's magical powers appear to be no match for the walking dead.
