by Anthony, Rodriguez, & McEvoy More than two thousand years ago, a Roman soldier named Cartaphilus struck a prisoner who was to be executed by crucifixion. From that moment, he was cursed by God and fate to walk the earth until Christ's return. Doomed to always bleed, always hurt... and never die. Acclaimed master of science-fiction and fantasy and New York Times bestselling author Piers Anthony delivers his first comic book story to the world of Starkweather and brings the untold history of this mythical Roman soldier to vivid life. In a tale that spans the millennia, Anthony reveals the events that created this fearsome adversary and how Cartaphilus was recruited to the side of the witches in their war against the Templars, creating a perfect entry point into the forthcoming Starkweather: Immortal limited series. Starkweather: Immortal #0 not only marks Piers Anthony's first true comic book work, but it's also the only place where Anthony's original short story 'Cartaphilus' can be read in its entirety. The Story of The Shield (1936) is a coloring storybook published by The National Life and Accident Insurance Co. Includes pictures to be colored while the child can learn the intertesting history of the shield. The Sumarians were the first ancient people to use the shield. The shield was the most important defense to the ancient Greek warrior, to be defeated and to also lose his shield in battle was the ultimate disgrace. But to die and be brought home upon his shild was the greatest honor. The Greeks and Romans both used their shields and tactics to defeat enemies. In the middle ages the shield was used by knights in battle and jousting. The Shield has been recognized as a symbol of honor and bravery. 12 pages, color cover with black and white illustrations in the interior, 9-in x 6-in.
