Likewise, the Phantom's costume is red on the cover, which is how the character appears in Italy. This issue includes the very first Sunday strip, a retelling of the Phantom's origin. The survivor of a pirate attack swears vengeance against all forms of crime, becoming the first Phantom. Through the ages to the present day, each generation has taken up the mantle, and the distinctive costume, so that enemies believe there is only one Phantom.
