Stories and art by Al Liederman and Bill Woolfolk. Silent-movie cowboy Tom Mix became a pop-culture icon with his 1940s radio show and this tie-in comic. Tom tracks a mad killer who hacks off his victims' hands. This disturbing (but not gory) pre-Code story was mentioned in the text (pp. 323-325) of the anti-comics classic Seduction of the Innocent. Tom opens his doors to strangers who need refuge, but they're actually outlaws who take him hostage and raid his larder. The constant "gunplay" in Big Boulder makes crossing the street a life-threatening decision, but one man wants to stop the madness. Tom tries to keep his friend's son "Spurs" from hanging out with gambler Giant Todd, but Spurs tells him to mind his own business. Plus a vintage ad for the Tom Mix radio show, and Tom Mix glow-in-the-dark spurs! Homicidal Hospitality; A Tale of the Lonesome Cowboy; Hands Off; Cowboy Cal; Saddlehead; Indian Lore; Stranger in the Night; The Tragedy of Joe Miller; Tumbleweed Jr.: The Bucking Bronco; Round Up Time with Tom Mix; The Song of the Deadly Spurs. 48 pages, Full Color. Cover price $0.10.

by Shannon Wheeler & Various It's the Best Issue Ever! Of anything! Ever! Then put on different socks and we'll knock those socks off you too! Who couldn't love this extra-special "Travel" issue, packed with brand new cartoons by the likes Douglas Paszkiewicz (Arsenic Lullaby), Peter Conrad, and possibly even Shannon Wheeler (if he can get off his lazy, pimpled ass and do something productive). This issue also features original award-winning essays by the perennially controversial Jed Alexander (Yellow Baby), Zoe Trope (best-selling author), and Carolyn Jones (reporter, SF Chronicle). But wait, that's not all! David Boswell offers up the greatest Reid Fleming cartoons ever put to paper; Kieron Dwyer and Keith Knight contribute illustrations that will prove, once and for all, that God exists and he loves you; and Superman returns to the bowling alley in the second installment of Mark Russell's off-kilter take on the crusader with a cape! Plus the extra-special, not-at-all-gay travel section, which we really just threw together at the last minute, yet somehow still rocks your, um, naughty bits out. Magazine, 64pg, b&w $4.95 Cover price $4.95.
