The launch of DC's Paradox Press imprint continues with the first of the Paradox Fiction books.
The veil of memory both distorts and embellishes the past. Most of the time, the truth (whatever that is) gets lost in the shuffle.
In BROOKLYN DREAMS, Brooklyn-born Vincent Carl Santini, hitting 36, sorts through the pivotal events of his life and relives the moments when his life was just a dream, when dreams were more important than life, and when life and dream merged and mingled into a cloud that memory could not separate.
Written by J.M. DeMatteis, with art by Glenn Barr, BROOKLYN DREAMS is a very personal recollection. Santini's remembrances, both sad and funny, are mirrored by Barr in a variety of styles befitting the subject. Sometimes the images are outrageously distorted, sometimes photo-realistic, but they always have the ring of truth.
DeMatteis's script is loose and flowing, skipping and dancing spontaneously from even to event in the conversational style that worked so well in earlier works such as the critically-acclaimed MOONSHADOW.
