Cover by Al Capp. Story and art by Al Capp. In 1946, Al Capp created this autobiographical giveaway comic for the Red Cross, to improve morale for amputee veterans returning from WWII. Capp's life is narrated and "drawn" by Lil Abner and the Yokum family, who've literally escaped the inkwell to reveal his life. Despite losing a leg in a streetcar accident as a boy, Capp becomes a successful cartoonist and marries his sweetheart. A final note from Capp provides an early message of body positivity in the face of disability. A subplot with femme fatale Moonbeam McSwine is added, but Capp's early work as assistant to Joe Palooka's Ham Fisher is not mentioned. 36 pages, full color.
