March 17, 1928. The Butterfly (originally "The Comic Home Journal") was a weekly British newspaper of comics and text stories that ran for over 35 years before WWII paper rationing caused it to cease publication in 1940. It featured such comic strips as "Portland Bill, Champion Smile Raiser and Laughter Merchant," "Smiler and Smudge," "Percy Pickle," and others. Some of the humor in these comic strips is "of its time," i.e., racist and offensive. Published in London by newspaper magnate Alfred Harmsworth. 10.75 in. x 14.75 in.; black and white; 8 pages.
