Nineteen hundred and fifty-eight witnessed many noteworthy events: the United States launched its first successful satellite; the plastic hula hoop was put on the market; The Bridge over the River Kwai won 7 Academy Awards; NASA was formerly created; President Dwight Eisenhower and Richard Nixon were in the White House; and Vladimir Nabokov's Lolita was published here in the good ole USA. Tensions were high in every american home as the country was smack dab in the middle of the cold war and the Space Race.
It was in this environment that comic book veteran Jack Kirby, scripters Dick and Dave Wood, and inker Wallace Wood created a space themed comic strip theatrically entitled Sky Masters of the Space Force. This handsome, beautifully crafted strip only ran for a little under two-and-a-half years and even though it's over sixty years old the feature manages to be entertaining and nostalgic.
This reprint of Sky Masters collects the complete daily continuity and boasts the best reproduction of the strip ever.
Hardcover, 11-in. x 10 1/2-in, 272 pages, B&W.
