Bull of the Woods and Out Our Way (1952, hardbound reprint, Charles Scribner's Sons, New York). "Bull of the woods" was an old lumberjack term, which Williams used to describe his strips about a gruff, poker-faced man prowling among hundreds of machine belts in a shop in Alliance, Ohio. Silhouetted against a hazy shop window, there was a certain resemblance to a dense woods. The bull was based on a real worker, hardboiled, perhaps, but kind. The art is fantastic and the strips are often hilarious. The better known "Out Our Way" describes old-time, working cowboys in both funny and poignant situations.
