Starts Jul 4 Cover by Ogden Whitney. Stories and art by Boody Rogers, Gardner Fox, Ham Fisher, Ray McGill, Bart Tumey, Mart Bailey, Alfred Andriola, J. P. McEvoy, John Striebel, and Ogden Whitney. Big Shot featured reprints of McNaught Syndicate humor and adventure strips, alongside original characters like Skyman and The Face. After super-powered baby Halfpint strikes Senator Fiddlestring, the politician's words all come out backwards, and Sparky Watts must remedy the situation without making it worse. Rocky Ryan goes deep behind enemy lines in the heart of Asia to save Betty, a US agent. En route to Hollywood to make a movie, Joe gets out of a sticky situation when Knobby pulls some strings. Interestingly, while the Charlie Chan comic strip was discontinued at this time (as WWII began), Columbia continued running the strip reprints in Big Shot. "Bowling Alley of Death," pencils by Syd Shores, inks by Don Rico; Gigo, a member of the Czar's nobility, owns a bowling alley where the kingpins of the officer's alley are hollowed out to fit .22 bullet guns and a catapult sends them sailing towards their intended victims; Gigo hates all democracies, but Cap and Bucky put a stop to his killings and hand him over to police. Captain America Comics ad. "The Tomb of Horror," script by Otto Binder, pencils by Al Avison; Steve and Bucky are told by Sgt. Duffy that they must assist a professor as he makes his way to the pyramids, where he is to search for a priceless hieroglyphic. "The Yanks Are Coming" text story. "The Mikado's Super Shell," art by Don Rico; Cap learns that the Paw and his Japanese co-horts have captured Betty, so he heads for Japan to find her. Untitled Fighting Fool story, pencils by Don Rico, inks by Al Gabriele; Retired from the Anzac Army because he was shot by the enemy in both lungs, Wade Huston decides to head for America and battle against Fifth Columnists there.
