These volumes are some of the earliest examples of Collected Comics. Companies, like Harvey, would archive their material by taking all the issues they released that month and having them bound into hardcover book format. The issues come complete with front and back covers and interiors. They were trimmed down perfectly to fit the hardcover format. Each year has twelve volumes, one for each month of the year.
