This issue was clearly inspired by the Sputnik crisis, as the lead story directly references the launch of the first Russian satellite in late 1957. The highlight is the classic Cold War story There's a New Moon Tonight!, an epic 15-page time-capsule of Cold War paranoia and Space Race history from Herbie creators Richard Hughes and Ogden Whitney, in which the response to Sputnik from the top-secret Bureau of Space Penetration naturally results in conflict with an alien civilization. Also, a Nazi encounters his birth parents during the purge of a city; World War II partisans are aided by the spirit of a historical military commander.
