Vol. 1 #1- March 1936. Before there was the Gong Show, there was the Major Bowes Radio Show. Edward Bowes would talk with contestants, list to their performances and decide their fate. Those deemed untalented were met with a loud bell. It was one of the most popular radio shows in the US in the 1930s. The magazines contain pictures and stories of the acts, special features and lots of pictures of Hollywood fashion and stars. 8.5" x 11.5". 96 pages. Black and white. Cover price $0.25.

Picture Play Magazine, originally titled Picture-Play Weekly was an American weekly published magazine centered around the movie industry during the golden-age of Hollywood. It was one of the earliest published tabloid style magazines that focused on celebrity gossip, but also included behind-the-scenes content, and movie reviews. It was first published on April 10, 1915, and ultimately transitioned from a weekly to a monthly publication before the end of it's production run in late 1941 after merging with Charm Magazine.
