by Kia Asamiya Kia Asamiya (Dark Angel) does comics like no one else. This Renaissance man of manga does fantasy adventure, comedy, drama, and in Nadesico, he creates fantastic space machines and gorgeous, strong worthy of EC's Wally Wood. It's an all- battle in this issue as young genius Ruri Hoshino and the cute robot 99 guide their ship into battle when they reach "The Edge of Jupiter." Why do the Jupiterians' mecha look like ancient Japanese sculptures? Could it be because the mysterious aliens are discovered to be--from the past? From the Earth itself? Nadesico is filled with inside jokes and references to other sci-fi anime and manga, but it never slows down the action and this pulse-pounding issue brings you into the heart of the battle for the fate of Earth? b&w, 32pg Cover price $2.95.

Dick Grayson's early years as a costumed crime-fighter are explored in this month's ROBIN: YEAR ONE, but his current-day adventures are chronicled each month in the pages of the hit series NIGHTWING. Now, in the extra-sized landmark NIGHTWING #50, Dick finds himself at a crossroads, where he must make a difficult decision that could affect the kind of hero he chooses to be in the future. Dudley Soames ? the twisted (in more ways than one) psychopath known as Torque ? has been going down a path of insanity ever since his head was twisted 180 degrees by the behemoth known as Blockbuster. In NIGHTWING #50, written by the regular creative team of writer Chuck Dixon (ROBIN, BIRDS OF PREY, Marvel Knights) and artists Greg Land (BIRDS OF PREY) and Jose Marzan, Jr. (ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN), Soames finally loses it and takes Arnot, and the entire Blüdhaven Police Headquarters, hostage. It's now up to Dick Grayson to set things right, and he prepares himself for the ultimate face-off against Soames in order to free the hostages. But before he can do anything, Dick first must decide which uniform he's going to wear in order to get the job done most effectively. Will he adopt his daytime identity of Blüdhaven rookie cop, or will he tackle Soames in his nocturnal identity of Nightwing? Cover price $3.50.

Volume 31 - 1st printing. "VIII Fighter Command at War!" Written by Michael O'Leary. This volume focuses on the little known official Army Air Force report commissioned by the Eighth Air Force's VIII Fighter Command (FC) in May 1944. The detailed document chronicled the experiences of 24 pilots who had seen extensive service in the frontline escorting B-17s and B-24s on daylight raids deep into Germany. Briefed to provide a candid report on combat flying that could be used as a teaching 'manual' for potential fighter pilots, the VIII FC veterans openly discuss their secrets to success, and survival in the deadly skies over occupied Europe. Exactly half of those pilots who contributed to The Long Reach subsequently achieved ace status. Softcover, 96 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $22.95.

Volume 35 - 1st printing. "P-40 Warhawk Aces of the CBI!" Written by Carl Molesworth. Art by Jim Laurier. This book details the colourful experiences of the elite pilots of the AAF's Tenth and Fourteenth Air Forces in the 'forgotten' China-Burma-India theatre during WW2. Inheriting the legacy of the American Volunteer Group (AVG), units such as the 23rd FG 'held the line' against overwhelming Japanese forces until the arrival of the first P-38s and P-51s in 1944. The Warhawk became synonymous with the efforts of the AAF in the CBI, being used by some 40 aces to claim five or more kills between 1942-45. This volume is the first of four covering the exploits with the P-40 during World War 2. Softcover, 96 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $22.95.

Volume 79 - 1st printing. "Louisbourg 1758!" Written by René Chartrand. Art by Patrice Courcelle. Louisbourg represented a major threat to Anglo-American plans to invade Canada. Bypassing it would leave an immensely powerful enemy base astride the Anglo-American lines of communication - Louisbourg had to be taken. Faced with strong beach defences and rough weather, it took six days to land the troops, and it was only due to a stroke of daring on the part of a young brigadier named James Wolfe, who managed to turn the French beach position, that this was achieved. The story is largely based on firsthand accounts from the journals of several participants, including French Governor Drucour's, whose excellent account has never been published. Softcover, 96 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $19.95.

Volume 21 - 1st printing. " B-24 Liberator Units of the Fifteenth Air Force!" Written by Robert F Dorr. Art by Mark Rolfe. The B-24 was heavily utilised in the North African and Mediterranean theatres by the USAAF's Fifteenth Air Force, with operations over the Ploesti oilfields in Rumania being some of the most famous missions undertaken by the big American 'heavy' in World War 2. The stirling work of the Fifteenth Air Force is often overshadowed by the glamorous 'Mighty Eighth', yet the men flying the B-24 fought ceaselessly right through to VE Day. This is the third of five titles planned to chart the operational history of the Consolidated heavy bomber, and is the first single volume to exclusively cover the Fifteenth Air Force's B-24 units. Softcover, 98 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $22.95.
