The series starts to resemble more traditional pre-Code crime comics, with stories like the one about a gang planting rigged slot machines around town. Hopalong Cassidy meets the strange killer called Bullethead, who can kill with a single blow from his bullet-shaped skull, and is called "the 3D killer" because he's "dangerous, demonic and demented." This is the only Charlton issue to feature Hopalong Cassidy; DC acquired the rights to the character around the same time. A dying killer confesses the names of his partners to Lash LaRue, and the partners want to kill Lash before he can report them to the authorities. Tex Ritter tracks a man who goes insane periodically and must be kept in a special room - or so he is told by the man's captors.
