Jack and Ace get into a brawl, which Jack wins; Ace goes to work as a manual laborer for Jack's trucking company. Bindle Al comes to talk to Jack. A truck axle falls on Ace's foot, smashing it; During his recovery, Jack makes him the bookkeeper and Ace has to fight temptation when dealing with cash. e is accused of theft when Jack's company's office is robbed; but Jack stands behind him and the real robber is picked up by the police. 52 pages, full color. Later she leads Tracy to the body of a man in a stream; Tracy confronts the dead man's business partner, but as he's questioning him, the partner is shot. The evidence points to Rudy Seaton as the killer of Fred Mason. Trohs has his gang grab Tracy and bring him to his hideout, where he crushes Tracy's right hand in a vise. The small-time hoodlum that Joy hired to make Jack lose his license does his job and frames Jack for buzzing airliners and flying drunk. Smokey sends Earl to the paint store to get some paint. Smokey thinks there's a strange man in his bathtub. Smokey bought a winter overcoat last spring at a cheap price, but the moths got to it. Smokey visits Fenwick Flooky's firehouse. An auto mechanic hides woodpeckers under the hood so drivers will think their engines are knocking. Marcella forgets to take Wrinkles, the Camel with the Wrinkled Knees, inside when she has to go to town with her mother; Nathan Gnome takes Wrinkles to the "Land of Lost Toys" and the Raggedys have to rescue him. Mr. and Mrs. Muskrat throw a Flapjack Party for all the wildwoods folk and have the Raggedys make the flapjacks. Minkie pulls several tricks to try to ruin the party. After stepping through a magic mirror, the Raggedys are given a tour of Elfland by Eddie Elf. Minkie captures Mrs. Fox in a cage and steals her groceries. Raggedy Ann fixes Wrinkles' hump by filling it with beans. The Raggedys bring a fire engine to put out the fire in Sunny Bunny's house. The police and mob boss Nick Gatt use their own ways to try to find the mysterious Axel and keep him from harming Annie; Gatt's methods are more brutal--and more effective. Buck shoots Gregory as the shopkeeper tries to take Annie into a back room where Axel's men are waiting. Annie finds out that Axel and his followers plan to take over the country. While Nick Gatt is trying to figure out a way to stop Axel, Byron Bolo is working on a plan to eliminate Gatt and take over his rackets.
