Joe took a job at Knobby Walsh's haberdashery; When Knobby leaves him in charge of the store, thugs come in, clear the shelves, and tell Joe that they have an account with Knobby; Knobby tells Joe that he has ruined him; Joe pursues the men, beats them and recovers the goods. "The Big Fight"; Knobby keeps Joe in the dark about the cash that he will get for Joe's fight. Joe meets World Champion Jack McSwatt in the ring, and McSwatt beats Joe senseless for four rounds; Knobby's conscience bothers him, and he wants to stop the fight, but Joe refuses; Knobby lies to Joe, telling him that McSwatt was the ringleader of the men who robbed Knobby's store. "Jerry Puts on the Gloves"; After telling his story, Joe and Jerry walk the decks; Jerry accidentally bumps into sailor Larry Malss, and angry words are exchanged; Before you know it, Malss' challenge for a boxing match has been accepted. "The Secret Mission"; Joe and Jerry drop radio equipment over Montenegro and follow it down to make sure it gets into the hands of the underground; When it does, Joe and his compatriots have to keep it from being seized by German troops. "The Narrow Escape"; Joe and Big Mike are making their way through the Serbian countryside and decide to put on German helmets (souvenirs) instead of carrying them; However, a lady swimming nearby sees the helmets and shoots, wounding Joe and knocking out Mike, thinking they are German; She is Serbian, treats Joe's wounds and has Mike carry him to her cabin, then sends him to the Americans for some sulfa. "The Crisis"; Big Mike returns with the sulfa, but Joe develops a high fever and Nada is worried; She wishes she had chicken broth to feed Joe, so Big Mike volunteers to go behind German lines to snatch some chickens. Crooked managers try to get Humphrey into high-stake matches to cash in on the proceeds if Humphrey can knock the other fighter out. "Joe Palooka, Adventures in Hollywood, Part 1, Lost in the Woods"; On a flight to Hollywood, the plane Joe and Knobby are on is forced to make an emergency landing in a wilderness area; They learn the pilots somehow got off course and the plane was low on fuel; Joe and one of the pilots take off, in different directions, to try and find help; In the meantime, Knobby falls in love with Sally Grepps, a young woman wanting to become an actress.
