Escaping the city of Zodanga in a Zodangan fighter, John Carter is shot down while flying over a battle between two green Martian tribes. Rebo, a Saturnian overlord wearing what appears to be a chicken-crest hat, declares war against the Earth, and the air force is unable to stop him.
