    Indicia title is "POPEYE AND WIMPY, No. 17." Untitled Thimble Theatre stories with Popeye and the gang. Pappy insists on sitting on tacks when he visits the Oyl family for dinner. Wimpy is mad at Pappy because he ordered food and then left Wimpy with the bill. Popeye takes Pappy to a party, but he makes a shambles of it. Popeye takes Pappy to another party. Pappy tricks the hostess into sitting on a tack. Pappy takes a mermaid to a dance, but Pooky Jones has to carry her and do the dancing. Popeye invents a machine to put a diaper on Swee'pea. Popeye improves his invention so that it gives babies a bath before putting on their diaper. Swee'pea is upset when he doesn't win a prize in the baby contest. Untitled Little Orphan Annie story, script and art by Harold Gray; Annie organizes the local kids into the "Junior Commandos" to do homefront war work like collecting scrap and selling war bonds; Annie befriends Mrs. Sleet, a bitter old woman who lost her son and husband in "the last war" (World War I); Doc Zee joins the Army and Annie comes to live with Mrs. Sleet, who she now refers to as "Auntie Priss"; A hardbitten refugee boy called Driftwood comes to live in the house; Later Annie uncovers a German Fifth Column operation; A brief cameo of Daddy Warbucks fighting in Asia, then back to Annie and the kids watching a sub attack a ship, whose captain is Annie's old friend Shanghai Peg; Later Annie hears a radio report that Warbucks and his company had been killed in battle; Doc Zee returns from the war, minus an arm.     Indicia title is "POPEYE, No. 26." Several untitled Thimble Theatre stories, scripts and art by E. C. Segar. Wimpy double-talks a farmer into giving him a cow. Wimpy shoots a farmer's cow, but Popeye gets the blame. Geezil and Popeye eat at Wimpy's café; Wimpy's cooking methods are a somewhat unorthodox. Wimpy makes Popeye feel guilty when he kills a rabbit to feed to a hungry dog. Popeye gives Wimpy some hamburgers to feed to a hungry dog, but Wimpy eats them himself. Geezil complains about Wimpy's soup, until Wimpy tells Geezil he should be mayor. After Wimpy drops a steak on the floor, Popeye demands a new steak; Wimpy tricks him into taking the original one. Popeye has a nightmare where he is knocked out in a prize fight. Swee'pea's real mother comes to claim him; Swee'pea runs away and with Wimpy's help is re-united with Popeye.     Indicia title is "WASH TUBBS, No. 28." Several untitled Captain Easy, Soldier of Fortune stories, scripts and art by Roy Crane. Wash has followed Carol McKee and her father to Panazuela; He brought Captain Easy, who was suffering from amnesia from a blow on the head; They are thrown into prison when a revolution starts. Bull Dawson steals the country's $6 million in gold, but the boat gets hung up on a sandbar. Easy gets control of the boat from Dawson and dumps the gold overboard in order to get away; The group is picked up by a ship and return to the United States. Rowden Splendix plants a fake story about Wash's father returning from Africa, then hires a bum to play the part. With Wash's bum of a father fouling up his relationship with the McKees, Rowden Splendix and his father up the ante by having him take a woman "customer" out on the town. Easy finds Wash on his "date" with I.R. Splendix's hired girl, Fifi, and substitutes himself at the pair's table. Easy goes to the police and fingers Bolito Coker as the one who killed I.R. Splendix. Wash, still on the run with his bum "father," hides out on a houseboat; They end up at the farm of the bum's long-deserted wife and son. Kayo comes home from the Crawfishes; Emmy finds Lord Plushbottom living in a hotel with his cousin, Sir Ambrose P.T.M. Plushbottom. Cousin Ambrose has a dinner party and Emmy discloses that Lord Plushbottom is almost broke. Dotty and her parents are having a picnic, but didn't take Kayo. Mamie and Willie return to the Plushbottom residence. Moon goes to visit Cousin Ambrose's maid on a night Ambrose is having a dinner party. Stanley, the new boy, gets Smitty demoted from his job as office boy, so he can take it. Smitty schemes to get Stanley in trouble so he can get his old job back. Stanley's plot to take Smitty's job is revealed when the public address system is accidentally switched on. George, the Indian guide from the North Woods, comes to the city and gets a job as caretaker of Mr. Bailey's new home at the top of a 36-story building. George's donkey has a baby and George takes a train back to the North Woods. Smitty is found by two Indians and is taken to their camp. Smitty falls into the daily routine at the Indian camp. Smitty and his Indian friend find a bear cub in the woods and bring it back to the camp. Smitty saves the bear cub when he finds a dead wolf under a bush. Reprinted from Smitty (Chicago Tribune-N.Y.
