Eventually, he found a young boy named Eric Strauss, whom he aged into an adult and trained in the mystical arts. Unlike Nelson, however, Eric was able to transform into Doctor Fate by mystically merging with his stepmother, Linda, thus creating a perfect synthesis of man and woman that could unlock the full potential of the Helmet of Fate.
