Original Preliminary Cover Art for Mantra (Unpublished) by Steve Rude In auction ending December 26 1993 A peek into the process of one of the greats of the modern era, Rude's design for this (sadly) unpublished cover is fantastic thanks in no small part to the effort he put in to capturing the essence of the character here. The piece is initialed in the lower right and dated '93, indicating that it was possibly meant to be the cover for the first issue. Blue line pencil and ink on paper. 8 1/4" x 11 1/2" |

Tigra Character Designs by Jack Kirby 1980s Though this design did not appear in the finished issue, this piece was likely drawn for Kirby's 1985 New Gods opus The Hunger Dogs, which saw Orion rescuing Tigra from Apokalips as Darkseid's empire crumbled around him. In the story Apokalips experiences a citizen's revolt with Darkseid makes a desperate run to find and kill Himon, the inventor of the Mother Box. When he makes it through the chaos and finds Himon, he is helping Orion load an injured Tigra into their getaway ship. Signed and dated '83 in the lower left of the piece. Pencil on DC Comics art board. 11 1/2" x 17". |

Preliminary Cover Art for Starship Troopers #9 (2008) by Scott James from Starship Troopers (2007 Markosia) 9 2008 Markosia Hard to believe this piece is a prelim, with a surprising amount of detail and texture in this image of a space marine ready for action! Pencil and ink on art board. 11" x 14". |
