"Vampire at Large!" Double-Sized issue. Script by Roy Thomas. Pencils by Gil Kane. Inks by Frank Giacoia. Cover by Gil Kane and Frank Giacoia. The Amazing Spider-Man is on the ropes against the Living Vampire! The web-slinger (with his six arms) needs a miracle to survive the fangs of Morbius! And shockingly, he gets one -- that's crazy, green, and covered in scales: the Lethal Lizard! After a wild free-for-all, the wall-crawler and the Lizard drive Morbius out of Dr. Connors' summer home on Long Island. But they can't let the Living Vampire roam around New York City unchecked. Good luck to the web-spinner and the Lizard too! Origin of Morbius. Cameo appearances by Gwen Stacy, Aunt May, J. Jonah Jameson, and Joe Robertson. Flashback cameos by Martine Bancroft and Emil Nikos. (Notes: Morbius appears next in Marvel Team-Up #3. Morbius' name is misspelled on the cover. The Green Goblin kills Gwen Stacy in "The Night Gwen Stacy Died," a story that fans still talk about. It was the first big shocking death in comics (perhaps even ushering in the bronze age!). Script writer Gerry Conway is remembered by many as "the writer who killed Gwen" (even though obviously Stan Lee himself okayed a story of this significance). Gil Kane provides the unforgettable pencils, with inks by John Romita Sr. and Tony Mortellaro. Romita cover. The story continues in issue #122. (Reprinted in Marvel Tales # 98 and 192.) 36 pages, full color. Cover price $0.20.
