Arriving in Kentucky, Xavier and Rahne are attacked by the rocket blasting Sam Guthrie who has been duped into working for Pierce and Professor X is captured. The young mutants band together to save Xavier before Pierce can suck his mind dry.

    Returning to the mansion after the conflict, Professor X gives his new young charges uniforms and, once the penitent Sam comes calling and is accepted into their ranks, the roster is filled and the New Mutants are born.

Following the tragic events of last issue, the downtrodden X-Men attend Professor X's funeral. The graveside service is briefly interrupted when the young mutants spot Quicksilver paying his respects from a distance. After the service the X-Men return to their Westchester mansion and listen to a posthumous message from their beloved mentor in which he, Charles Xavier, officially passes the torch to his students. In the meantime Quicksilver returns to Magneto's Atlantic Island lair! Following the tragic events of last issue, the downtrodden X-Men attend Professor X's funeral. The graveside service is briefly interrupted when the young mutants spot Quicksilver paying his respects from a distance. After the service the X-Men return to their Westchester mansion and listen to a posthumous message from their beloved mentor in which he, Charles Xavier, officially passes the torch to his students. In the meantime Quicksilver returns to Magneto's Atlantic Island lair!
