A young American research team, led by Nicholas Steel, has been caught up in a nuclear radiation experiment in Chernobyl that has been going on since the bombing of Nagasaki during World War II. The Soviet Union began trying to combine the resiliency of insect DNA with that of humans to create a race that could be the victor in a nuclear holocaust.
