French Edition. Marvel Comics Super Special #7, by writer David Anthony Kraft and artists George Pérez and Jim Mooney. This premature adaptation of the film Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band was promoted on the "Bullpen Bulletins" page in Marvel Comics cover-dated January 1979, but was never published in the U.S. "because the book was late and the movie proved to be a commercial failure," according to a contemporaneous news account. French, French-Canadian, and Dutch editions are known to exist, though. Check individual item notes and scans to see which edition we're offering.
Penciller George Perez said of this elusive issue, "... we didn't realize that the [movie] script was still in so much flux that things we were putting in the comic were not going to appear in the movie and things we didn't know about were going to be added to the movie. The plot was so convoluted and cheesy — even on the printed page — and after a while we realized it was not really going anywhere. They said they were going to have all these superstars appear at the end of the film and, of course, in the end they couldn't get them — not that we could have used them anyway, because we didn't have the licenses to use their likenesses.... It was just one disaster after another. It was one of the nadirs of my career. I was so grateful that the book never got an American release. I've yet to see a copy of Sgt. Pepper." Cover price $1.50. -

Complete Set (Includes all 18 Plates) - Complete Kit - Create your very own super heroes and monsters! Using head, torso, and leg plates provided you can mix and match to create a variety of different characters to color. Simply place the plates in the left tray, place a sheet of paper over the plates, lower the frame onto the paper, rub a black crayon over the sheet of paper and your Mighty Man or Monster will magically appear. Turn some of the plates over and add textures like scales or hair as you color. You can draw good guys and regular monsters or mix up their parts and draw super monsters. With a little practice, you can invent neat and incredible creatures never before seen and good guys to fight them. With the Mighty Men and Monster Maker you are the mad scientist! Includes: 18 reversible plates (6 Heads, 6 torsos, and 6 legs) and a kit that holds your plates, crayons or coloring pencils, and the framing area where your creations come alive. Endless hours of fun... - Odinson, Lone Star Comics Archivist Note: Crayons and coloring pencils NOT included. Condition of Box may vary - Contents are Near-Mint condition (i.e. the plates and kit).
