Osprey Campaign Series SC (1990-2011 OSPREY) 107-1ST

Volume 107 - 1st printing. " Poland 1939!" Written by Steven J Zaloga. Art by Howard Gerrard. The German invasion of Poland on 1 September 1939 began World War II in Europe, pitting the newly modernized army of Europe's great industrial power against the much smaller Polish army and introducing the world to a new style of warfare - Blitzkrieg. Panzer divisions spearheaded the German assault with Stuka dive-bombers prowling ahead spreading terror and mayhem. This book demonstrates how the Polish army was not as backward as it is often portrayed and fielded a tank force larger than that of the contemporary US Army. Its stubborn defence did give the Germans some surprises and German casualties were relatively heavy for such a short campaign. Softcover, 96 pages, PC/PB&W Cover price $19.95.

Osprey Combat Aircraft Series SC (1997-2011 OSPREY) 30-1ST

Volume 30 - 1st printing. " US Navy F-4 Phantom II MiG Killers 1972-73!" Written by Brad Elward, and Peter Davies. Art by Jim Laurier. The second of two books on the Navy's Phantom II MiG killers of the Vietnam War, this book covers the numerous actions fought out over North Vietnam during the Linebacker I and II operations of 1972-73. No fewer than 17 MiGs were downed during this period, five of them by the Navy's sole aces of the conflict, Lts Randy Cunningham and Willie Driscoll of VF-96. Drawing on primary sources such as surviving Phantom II aircrew and official navy documentation, the author has assembled the most precise appraisal of fighter operations involving US Navy Phantom II units and those elusive MiGs ever seen in print. Softcover, 98 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $22.95.

  • Issue #28-1ST
Osprey Essential Histories SC (2001) 28-1ST

Volume 28 - 1st printing. "The Arab-Israeli Conflict!" By Efraim Karsh. The Palestine War has been by far the most important military encounter in the history of the Arab-Israeli conflict. This book examines the origins of the war and its progression through two distinct stages: the guerrilla warfare between the Arab and Jewish communities of Mandatory Palestine, and the conventional inter-state war between the State of Israel and the invading Arab armies. In doing so it assesses the participants, their war aims, strategies and combat performance. Finally, it examines the reasons for Israel's success in the face of seemingly impossible odds and for the failure of the Arab nations to turn their military and numerical superiority into victory on the ground. Softcover, 96 pages, PC/PB&W Cover price $17.95.

  • Issue #30-1ST
Osprey Essential Histories SC (2001) 30-1ST

Volume 30 - 1st printing. "The Second World War Part 3!" By Alastair Finlan, Mark J Grove, and Philip D Grove. This volume provides a comprehensive guide to three major theatres of combat; the battles for the Atlantic, the war in the Mediterranean and the contest in the Indian Ocean. The war at sea was a vital contest, which if lost would have irreversibly altered the balance of the military forces on land. The sea lanes were the logistical arteries of British and subsequent Allied armies fighting on the three continents of Africa, Asia and Europe. The Second World War was ultimately won by land forces but it could always have been lost at sea. Softcover, 96 pages, PC/PB&W Cover price $14.95.

  • Issue #51-1ST
Osprey Warrior Series SC (1993-2011 OSPREY) 51-1ST

Volume 51- 1st printing. "Russian Grenadiers and Infantry 1799-1815!" Written by Laurence Spring. Art by Bill Younghusband. This title provides a comprehensive and vivid account of life in the Russian infantry at the turn of the 19th century - a time when the Russian army was arguably one of the most important in the world. Although hopelessly outdated at the outbreak of war in 1799, the army underwent radical changes and modernisation after Czar Paul I's murder. This book details recruitment and training procedures, tactics and equipment, and daily life both at home and on campaign. The experiences of the average soldier are examined, and several commonly held assumptions regarding his character and motivation are reassessed. Softcover, 64 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $18.95.

This top-secret American military force was the predecessor for the CIA and for elite special operations units like the modern day Navy Seals and Army Rangers. O.S.S. forces engaged in hair-raisingly dangerous campaigns against the Nazi and Axis forces; often going in before the regular military units to scout the front, to glean vital intelligence, and to cripple the enemy defenses with sabotage.
