Volume 87 - 1st printing. "Bell UH-1 Huey "Slicks" 1962–75!" Written by Chris Bishop. Art by Mike Badrocke. The US Army requirement for a light utility helicopter was formulated after the Korean War. Bell's Model 204 design won a competition in 1955, and was given the military designation H-40, later renamed the HU-1 Iroquois. The original design called for a helicopter that could be used for transport, airborne battlefield command and control, medical evacuation, fire support co-ordination and search and rescue. Later its missions would be expanded to include troop insertion/extraction, armed escort and special operations. This title details all the technological background behind the development and use of the Huey "Slick" in Vietnam, as well as covering all the major uses that this transport aircraft was put to. Softcover, 48 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $17.95.

New Vanguard SC (1993 Osprey Military) 88-1ST

Volume 88 - 1st printing. "British Battlecruisers 1939–45!" Written by Angus Konstam. Art by Tony Bryan. When war broke out in 1939, only three true battlecruisers remained in the Royal Navy including HMS ‘Hood', the world's largest and fastest capital ship for much of her life, which would be destroyed in action against the German battleship ‘Bismarck'. Out of the remaining two battlecruisers (‘Repulse' and ‘Renown') one was sunk by Japanese aircraft off Singapore, whilst the other served with distinction until the end of the war. This book traces the pre-war development of these spectacular warships, then describes their wartime exploits, using this to demonstrate their operational and mechanical performance. It examines what life was like on these wartime battlecruisers when they sailed into action. Softcover, 48 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $17.95.

She's about to be chased, shot at, sexually harassed, and guilted into going to her unbearable cousin's birthday party, and she doesn't even know why! Well, maybe she knows why she has to go the birthday party (her mom is an expert guilt-tripper), but that doesn't mean she has to put up with all the other stuff! Osprey Fortress Series SC (2003) 13-1ST

Volume 13 - 1st printing. "Norman Stone Castles Part 1!" Written by Christopher Gravett. Art by Adam Hook. Descended from the Viking raiders who settled in Northern France under the leadership of Rollo in around 911, the Normans were amongst the most feared warriors of their time. Their territorial ambitions culminated in Duke William 1's conquest of England in 1066, but although victory at Hastings left the English crown in William's hands, Norman sovereignty remained far from established on the island. In order to consolidate his position, the new king built a series of fortifications across the country - this book covers all these developments from the early days of William I through to the fortifications of Henry II, Richard I and John. Softcover, 64 pages, PC/PB&W Cover price $18.95.

Volume 14 - 1st printing. "Fortifications in Wessex, 800-1066!" Written by Ryan Lavelle. Art by Donato Spedaliere. The defence of the 9th-century kingdom of Wessex under King Alfred against the 'Great Viking Army' is one of the major military achievements of Early Medieval history. While the guerrilla warfare in the Somerset marshes and the battle of Edington are characteristic of Alfred's military abilities, his definitive physical achievement was a series of some 30 well-structured fortifications (known as burhs) across the kingdom. Many of these fortifications survive to this day and some were even reinforced to stand up to German tanks in the expected invasion of 1940. This title describes their beginnings in the turbulent early years of Alfred's reign as well as their subsequent development and use. Softcover, 64 pages, PC/PB&W Cover price $18.95.

    Osprey Men-at-Arms Series SC (1973-2011 OSPREY) 399-1ST

Volume 399 - 1st printing. "Medieval Scandinavian Armies (2)!" Written by David Lindholm and David Nicolle. Art by Angus McBride. While Scandinavia's 'Viking Age' is one of the most studied aspects of early medieval history, much less has been published about the centuries which followed. Yet the armies of Sweden, Norway and Denmark offer fascinating differences from the rest of medieval Western Europe, both in their organisation and their war gear. This second of two books covers the period which saw both expansion in the Baltic, and long wars born of the attempt to bring Scandinavia under a single monarchy - the Union of Kalmar. In the North, as elsewhere, the perfection of plate armour could not prevent the steady decline in the importance of the 15th century mounted knight in favour of the well armed infantryman. Softcover, PC/PB&W.

Osprey Warrior Series SC (1993-2011 OSPREY) 82-1ST

Volume 82- 1st printing. "US Submarine Crewman 1941-45!" Written by Robert Hargis. Art by Velimir Vuksic. This book takes a close look at the Dolphins of the US Navy submarine force, it covers recruitment, training, service conditions and combat experiences, and discusses the effects of advances in torpedo technology on crew roles. The Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941 battered the surface fleet, but the submarine force escaped unharmed. It was up to the Silent Service to spearhead the naval war against Japan, cutting her supply routes and neutralizing her naval threat. By August 1945, US Navy submarines had made 488 war patrols. The achievements of the Silent Service were not without consequence - 3,500 American crewmen lost their lives. Softcover, 64 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $18.95.
