New Vanguard SC (1993 Osprey Military) 98-1ST

Volume 98 - 1st printing. "British Anti-tank Artillery 1939-45!" Written by Chris Henry. Art by Brian Delf. The rapid development of the tank as an offensive weapon following its introduction in World War I gave artillery theorists cause for concern during the 1920s and 1930s. By the beginning of World War II anti-tank guns had been developed, initially at around 37mm and 2 pounds in weight of shot. By the end of the war, monster anti-tank weapons were being developed, able to penetrate an armour thickness of up to 200mm at a range of 1,000 yards. This book explores the British efforts to keep up in a war of development, which saw heavier and more powerful guns eventually replaced by experimental ideas in an attempt to stop the German onslaught. Softcover, 48 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $17.95.

  • Issue #120-1ST
Osprey Elite Series SC (1984-2008 OSPREY) 120-1ST

Volume 120 - 1st printing. "Mounted Archers of the Steppe 600 BC-AD 1300!" Written by Antony Karasulas. Art by Angus McBride. For more than 2,000 years hordes of mounted nomadic archers from the vastness of the steppe and from Central Asia spewed out into China, the Middle East, and Europe. Feared and reviled, they were a formidable threat to the lands they invaded. Their influence on military history is incalculable: the whole foundation of late Classical and Medieval Western and Middle Eastern military thought was based on the reality of a highly mobile, tough and unconventional foe, one which could strike almost anywhere at will and with highly effective long-range weapons. This book details the history, weapons, equipment and tactics of these fascinating warriors. Softcover, 64 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $18.95.

  • Issue #121-1ST
Osprey Elite Series SC (1984-2008 OSPREY) 121-1ST

Volume 121 - 1st printing. "Ancient Siege Warfare!" Written by Duncan B Campbell. Art by Adam Hook. Sieges played a central role in many conflicts of the ancient world and generals, including Darius, Alexander the Great, Hannibal and Scipio Africanus successfully used siegecraft to gain their objectives. As siege tactics became integral to success in war, generals employed the minds of engineers and scientists to develop tactics which ranged from penetrating the defences or blockading the city through to tricks and deception. This fascinating study tracks developments in siege warfare from Ancient Persia in the 6th century BC through to the Roman sieges of the second century BC, describing the range of equipment and techniques which evolved during this period. Softcover, 64 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $18.95.

  • Issue #24-1ST
Osprey Fortress Series SC (2003) 24-1ST

Volume 24 - 1st printing. "Fortifications of the Western Front 1914–18!" Written by Paddy Griffith. Art by Peter Dennis. Following the early battles of 1914 along the Marne and in the Ypres salient, World War I rapidly changed from a war of movement into one of attrition, with the opposing sides entrenching themselves in a line of fortified positions from the Flanders coastline to the Swiss border. This volume details the different styles of fortification used on the Western Front throughout the course of the war, from the early ditches of 1914 to the complicated systems of 1918. It explains the development of the 'defence in depth' German system and the British reaction to it, as well as illustrating the importance of the pre-war forts, particularly around Verdun. Softcover, 64 pages, PC/PB&W Cover price $18.95.

  • Issue #412-1ST
    Osprey Men-at-Arms Series SC (1973-2011 OSPREY) 412-1ST

Volume 412 - 1st printing. "Ukrainian Armies 1914–55!" Written by Eugene Pinak and Peter Abbott. Art by Oleksiy Rudenko. There can be no region in Europe whose history has been more tortured than Ukraine. During the 20th century Austria, Poland, Russia, Germany, Hungary, Czechoslovakia and Romania vied for power over parts of this vast and fragmented area; and its divided peoples rose time and again in vain attempts to win their independence. For the first time in the West, this book gives a succinct summary of all the different armed forces raised among the Ukrainians, and of their uniforms and insignia. These are illustrated in colour and in a selection of extremely rare photographs, dating from the Great War to the aftermath of World War II, when Ukrainian guerrillas continued to defy the Soviet authorities until the mid-1950s. Softcover, PC/PB&W.

Volume 1 - 1st printing. "Way Home and Bittersweet Summer!"

Story and art by Andy Runton.

This beautifully rendered and touching story will be the first actual graphic novel series from Top Shelf!

Owly is a kind, yet lonely, little owl who's always on the lookout for new friends and adventure. The first graphic novel in the series contains two enchanting novellas, "The Way Home" and "The Bittersweet Summer," wherein Owly discovers the meaning of friendship, and that saying goodbye doesn't always mean forever. Relying on a mixture of symbols, icons, and expressions to tell his silent stories, Runton's clean, animated, and heartwarming style makes it a perfect read for anyone who's a fan of Jeff Smith's Bone or Mike Kunkel's Herobear and the Kid.
