Helmet of Fate Detective Chimp (2007) 1

Written by Bill Willingham Art by Shawn McManus Cover by Brian Bolland Bill Willingham (SHADOWPACT, FABLES) joins forces with artist Shawn McManus (THE SANDMAN) and cover artist extraordinaire Brian Bolland for a tale of Detective Chimp! The World's Greatest Simian Sleuth is called in to investigate the murders of a new band of wannabe super-heroes when the Helmet of Fate enters his life! ? 32 pg, FC NOTE: LONE STAR COMICS REVIEW BY REGIONAL MANAGER AARON SETTLE: Of all of the lead-up titles to Infinite Crisis, Day of Vengeance was the biggest surprise and the main reason for that was Detective Chimp. Something about the world's greatest simian detective struck a chord with readers. At the end of Day of Vengeance, Detective Chimp played a role in deciding to throw the helmet of fate into space and letting fate itself decide who will be the next to wear the mantle. Fate takes a unique turn in Helmet of Fate: Detective Chimp as the helmet arrives back on Earth in time to help the chimp solve the murder of a group of new heroes. One of the best things about this one-shot, which begins the long process of selecting the next Doctor Fate, is actually the story before the chimp gets the helmet. We actually get to see the detective in action and its pretty cool. And then once he finds the helmet things go into overdrive. It's a fun issue written by Bill Willingham (Shadowpact) and does a good job of reintroducing the helmet of Fate to the DC Universe and setting up the eventual return of Doctor Fate. If you dig Doctor Fate or Shadowpact, check out this one-shot. Cover price $2.99.
